Confessions of a Chiropractor

a story tale journey towards a life of expression and freedom

This is a story about a young, shy, introverted girl with a dream to join a community of selfless, purpose driven and dedicated individuals who serve to unleash and tap into the wholeness and potential of each unique human being.  Even though this is my personal story, I am sure you can relate, as we are all on a journey to live a purposeful life.  The commonality is the shared experience of feelings, emotions and thoughts we have along our journey to fulfillment, joy and happiness.

“Consider one of nature’s many small miracles: a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly through the seemingly magical process of metamorphosis.  For its brief existence, a caterpillar does little more than eat; that is seemingly its only purpose.  Some caterpillars eat so much that they grow to one hundred times their original size.  However, eventually the amazing process of metamorphosis begins.  When the time is right, certain cells become activated in the caterpillar and it enters the cocoon phase, from which it emerges a

few weeks later unrecognizably transformed into a creature of enchanting beauty, one that also serves

an invaluable function in nature through its role in the pollination of plants and thus the production

of food for others to live by.”

 -  John Mackey

Unlike caterpillars we cannot wait for nature to trigger our evolution.  We are held with the responsibility to choose and make deliberate actions towards optimizing our personal growth and development. Chiropractic came into my life as my form of metamorphosis. It transformed my life, my identity, and my purpose, and provided the tools to empower and service all of humanity.

“The purpose of chiropractic is to optimize human potential and state of well being.”

- Dr. Jay Holder

“ When you catch a glimpse of your potential, that’s when passion is born.”

- Zig Ziglar

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

- Mahatma Gandhi

What is chiropractic care to a chiroprator?

Current research validates and supports the effectiveness of chiropractic care in the management of a variety of musculoskeletal complaints, such as neck pain, headaches and low back pain.  However, what has been anecdotally reported since 1895 is chiropractic care and its association with a greater fulfillment of human potential and state of well being.  According to the research conducted by Dr. Candace Pert, “your sense of well being, biochemically speaking, is seated in the limbic system, which has outposts throughout the spinal cord in little anatomical features called the dorsal horn”.  Thus, if your spine is misaligned anywhere along its length it interferes with the precise sequence of chemical changes within the brain called the “brain reward cascade”.  Thereby, restoring the alignment of the spine and the cascade of chemicals along the spinal cord and brain, you will ultimately feel a greater sense of well-being, fulfillment and pleasure.

As a chiropractor, chiropractic care is much bigger than back pain, headaches and neck pain.  Obviously, it is of utmost importance to assist someone in restoring full function, but true health is simply not an absence of symptoms, and not something strictly physical in nature.  Chiropractic is grounded in the body’s innate ability to heal and integrate physically, chemically and emotionally the experiences of daily living.  We were all born with an innate ability to run, heal and evolve through the complex network of our neuro-spinal system.  Thus by restoring the integrity of the neuro-spinal system through a specific chiropractic adjustment, it enhances your body’s ability to respond to your environment physically and emotionally moving you closer towards expressing true health.  Chiropractic serves as a catalyst to unlock your inner genius; how this may affect and transform your life is part of the marvelous, mysterious journey we are all on.

Chiropractic truly embraces what is right within every single human being.  There is an innate force that built you, that heals you, and that continues to run you.  What I have learned along my journey in chiropractic is that we are all working towards fulfilling our higher purpose, one that creates the most joy in our lives.  Chiropractic has allowed me to realize that my purpose in life is to empower people to know that they are unlimited and to encourage human beings to live their purpose. My intention, my hope, and my reason for practicing chiropractic is to serve as a catalyst to assist people in their evolution from their caterpillar state of being to a unique, expressive, and beautiful butterfly.

The Birth of a Child - The Reason Why All Babies Benefit from Chiropractic Care

One of the most common reasons that parents access chiropractic care for their newborns stems from a concern about their birth experience.  The reality of the birth experience is different from what many women expect.  Our ideas about how things will unfold is often influenced by the ideas of others.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care and the Birth Experience

More and more women are choosing to include midwives and doulas in their birth plan.  They want to stay at home longer, minimize intervention and trust their bodies in bringing forth new life.

For many other mothers, a hospital birth provides the comfort and safety they desire.  Birth stories vary considerably, choices about labouring, breastfeeding and parenting are abundant.  At our clinic we respect and support all parents in their journey.  Our role is not to judge but to provide the care to support the outstanding and brilliant tendency of the nervous system to heal after the birthing experience.

Difficulties with Breastfeeding

Putting baby to the breast immediately following birth supports the nutritional, hormonal and emotional needs of the baby and the mom.  The latch of the infant becomes paramount in nurturing this bond between infant and mommy.  It is becoming common knowledge that the inborn ability for rooting (finding the nipple), sucking, tongue protrusion and the movement of the palate are all intricately connected to the health and proper function of the central nervous system.

It is extremely common to see the negative impact of birth trauma on the infantile sucking mechanism.  Commonly referred to as a lazy latch, this phenomenon is responsible for a increase in maternal stress, "insufficient" milk supply and an unfortunate number of women being encouraged to formula feed their children.

This is very much a chiropractic infantile issue.

Very specific patterns of abnormal function in the nervous system of a baby are identifiable by chiropractors trained in pediatric assessment and adjustment techniques.  Restoring the innately wired-in reflexes that are responsible for successful latch and breastfeeding have parents noting positive changes in a multitude of areas.

Infant Chiropractic Care for Self Healing

To be clear, the chiropractic adjustment does not "treat" the following symptoms or scenarios but rather allows the child's nervous system to restore proper function and to beautifully self-heal as it is intricately designed to do so.

Always remember that the health of your child is an expression of their neurology.  Chiropractic helps to restore healthy neurological expression and is appropriate for healthy babies as well as babies with health concerns.
