What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture treats more than 80 conditions recognized by the World Health Organization.

Acupuncture involves stimulating nerve rich points of the body, most often with the placement of fine needles. Acupuncture has been shown to alleviate pain originating from a variety of conditions. A qualified acupuncturist will review treatment options based on your health goals.

Acupuncture is one of the most utilized forms of health care worldwide. During an acupuncture treatment, small hair thin needles are inserted just under the skin into specific combinations of acupoints to correct function, often related to conditions of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.

Acupuncture can be used as an adjunct therapy to help to maintain and promote good health and well being. Acupuncture can also be beneficial for specific conditions such as:

  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Muscular dysfunction
  • Hip pain
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Patella-femoral syndrome
  • Sprains and strains
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Low back pain
  • Sinusitis
  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Tendinopathy (tendinitis)
  • Sport or work injuries
  • Chronic and acute conditions

Is Acupuncture covered by medical insurance?

Acupuncture is covered by most extended health plans. Inquire with your insurance provider for the details of your coverage.

Are there the risks?

Single use, sterilized needles are used one time on an individual patient and then discarded to a medical waste facility. Any risks and benefits would be treatment dependent, but documented risks are few in the hands of a trained provider. If you have questions, or simply want to learn more, please contact the office for a phone consultation.
